Harnessing ICT to Achieve Uganda’s SDGs

SDG 1: No Poverty

Using technology to help Uganda Achieve it’s SDG Targets

The Cyberline EdTech ICT Inter-School Competition is aligned with Uganda’s national development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the theme “Harnessing ICT to Achieve Uganda’s Sustainable Development Goals”, the competition challenges students to explore how technology can drive meaningful social and economic change.

For the 2026 edition, the competition focuses on SDG 1: No Poverty, examining how Information and Communication Technology can be applied to reduce poverty, expand economic opportunities, and improve livelihoods across communities in Uganda.

Why SDG 1: No Poverty

Poverty remains one of the most critical challenges affecting individuals, families, and communities in Uganda. Limited access to information, skills, technology, and economic opportunities continues to widen inequality. By focusing on SDG 1, the competition encourages students to think beyond theory and explore practical, technology-driven solutions that address real societal needs.

Through ICT, students are guided to understand how digital tools can support income generation, access to markets, financial inclusion, skills development, and improved service delivery—key factors in breaking the cycle of poverty.

  • Using ICT to promote economic empowerment and innovation
  • Developing digital solutions for local community challenges
  • Bridging the digital divide through knowledge and access
  • Preparing students for participation in the digital economy
  • Aligning education with national and global development goals
